The Mackey Speaks Leadership Journal

Apr 13, 2018

In our latest episode on the MSLJ, Mackey (@mackeyspeaks) is fired up about a recent quote he posted on Twitter talking about the idea that the very best coaches care too much about their players to not let them be their best.

The smallest things matter to the coaches that won't accept anything except each players' best. The best coaches accept nothing but the very best. They see in them what the athletes don't always see in themselves. They know and see where athletes could go when the athletes themselves don't believe they could get there. We all have someone who we would run through a brick wall for, someone who has shaped and molded us to be the people we are today.

Do you love YOURSELF enough to demand the best of you? The truth is, we're really great at loving other people and we're awful at loving ourselves. It only takes one person for doubt to be effective. The only person that has to have doubt for it to be effective is you, and the moment that you doubt yourself, you allow in the very worst language, the worst thoughts to creep in. If we cannot learn to love ourselves, we can never receive the love of other people. As much as you love other people, do things for other people, do the same for yourself.
